Origin~ protective foil gum residue
On some of the Origin~ worktops that we supply it is possible that the protective foil gum residue is difficult to clean off.
This is a problem that has been addressed for current production and as such will become less and less as time goes by.
In the mean time when you do come across a board with some awkward gum reside these are the best and safest methods of cleaning it off.
1) There is a product called Citrus Cleaner and Adhesive Remover (CC&AR) made by Westech Aerosol Corporation. Cost £15 from Co tops per 13 ounce aerosol but it cannot be posted! This product is fantastic and removes glue deposits extremely easily.
2) Use a concentrated solution of sugar soap this works particularly well with a little hot water. You must be extremely careful not to get the sugar soap onto any wooden products such as kitchen doors as it may discolour them. This is the cheapest option, but it requires more elbow grease.
3) Fairy washing up liquid used in a concentrated solution with hot water and plenty of rubbing.
4) Tesco’s all purpose Lemon Cleaner used in a concentrated solution with hot water and plenty of rubbing.
5) Mr Muscle bathroom and toilet cleaner with anti-bacterial action used in a concentrated solution with hot water and plenty of rubbing.
6) Do NOT use any abrasive creams as you may damage the worktop.
7) Do NOT use any solvents such as white spirit the gum is a vegetable based product and any solvent may simply harden the gum. There is also a fire and health risk using solvents in confined spaces.
